MediMundi was created to solve two important problems:
PATIENTS
There are more than 40 million Americans without health insurance. Roughly half of all bankruptcies that are filed in the United States are due to medical bills. Too many people live in fear of going to a doctor and finding out they will need surgery they cannot afford. These uninsured patients face a terrible dilemma: financial ruin or the deterioration of their health.
But what if there were other options? What if the choice doesn't have to be so stark? If you are one of those patients who has been diagnosed with a serious medical condition requiring major elective surgery, MediMundi was built for you.
There are qualified doctors all over the world, many of them trained in the US, Canada and Europe, who can perform the exact same surgery for a dramatically lower price. Even if you factor in the extra expense for travel and accommodation and having a family member accompany you for the surgery, you could still end up paying anywhere from 1/3 to 1/10th of the cost of having the same procedure done in the United States.
The two key questions for someone considering traveling abroad for medical care (also called medical tourism or surgical vacations) are: How do I find these qualified doctors? And, how do I know which doctors I can trust? MediMundi sets out to answer both of those questions.
Our goal is to build the world's largest directory of medical professionals. As you browse through our site you should be able to find doctors in over 100 countries for every major medical and dental specialty who specialize in treating patients traveling from overseas specifically to receive medical care. These doctors collectively perform over 130 different kinds of elective surgical procedures.
As you search for doctors, you'll want to narrow your search and focus on those with whom you feel most comfortable. Once again, MediMundi was designed to make your search easier.
Doctors are asked to complete very specific profiles detailing their education, medical training, membership in medical associations as well as affiliations with hospitals and medical practices. MediMundi allows you to narrow your search to, for example, only consider doctors trained in the United States who are certified by the American Medical Association.
Doctors are also asked to answer questions that will help you plan your entire "medical vacation". You can see which languages the doctor and/or staff speak, if the doctor's office will help you with travel arrangements, if they are affiliated with a hotel or surgical recovery center, and if they offer financing for the surgery.
Perhaps most importantly, MediMundi also features the testimonials and doctor evaluations of other patients who have traveled to another country to have surgery.

DOCTORS
The other problem that MediMundi aims to solve is the shortage of opportunities for many doctors in their home countries. Too many times the top doctors and medical professionals in countries around the world are leaving to find jobs in the United States, Canada or Europe. These doctors are lured away by the promise of better salaries in developed countries.
Unfortunately, this "brain drain" of doctors is stripping developing countries of some of their best human capital and keeping them from realizing their full potential. We think it is unfortunate that a lot of the best doctors in the world are leaving poor countries where their expertise is most needed to work in rich countries.
But what if instead of having these doctors go to live in countries like the United States, Canada and the U.K. the patients came to them? This is the promise of medical tourism: patients from rich countries travel to poor countries to get quality medical care from trained professionals. And the extra money circulating through these hospitals and medical centers stays in these developing countries, helping them become more prosperous over the long run.
We believe the world is a better place when doctors from developing countries have enough opportunities that they don't have to leave home.
