Christos Markopoulos Prof
CHRISTOS MARKOPOULOS graduated from Athens Medical School (1979) and specialised in general surgery. He was senior registrar at the Breast Unit of St. George's and The Royal Marsden Hospitals in London-UK (1985-8) and research fellow at Lundwing Institute for Cancer research at Sutton (MPhil Degree on Breast Cancer Oncology, London University). He is currently Associate Professor of Surgery at Athens University Medical School and Director of the Breast Unit. He has published over 250 scientific papers in International (102/84 in PubMed) and Greek Medical Journals and he has given a number of lectures as invited speaker in International (26) and Greek (125) congresses. He is PI and national coordinator for trials of BIG,IBCSG,TRANS-BIGproject,MINTACT. His main clinical interest is the study of DCIS and the Aromatase Inhibitors (member of the AIs Study Group). He authored 4 books on ‘Breast Disease management and co-authored/edited 16 more books. He is Professor of the elective course on ‘Breast Disease in Athens Medical School. Since 2000, he chairs The Hellenic Society of Breast Surgeons, responsible of education and clinical trials section of the society. He is member of ASBS, BASO, ESSO, BSI and president/member of the scientific committee of Greek, Breast Cancer Advocacy Groups and EUROPA DONNA HELLAS.
