Dr Alvin Hong
Dr Alvin Hong received his medical training in the United Kingdom. In 1994, whilst working in Cambridge, he was awarded the Norman Dott Gold medal as the best candidate in the FRCS part 3 Intercollegiate Examination in Neurosurgery. In 1996, he spent time developing his expertise in spine surgery in the Barrow Neurological Institute in Arizona, and radiosurgery in UCSF, USA. Before moving to private practice in 2004, he was the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery in the National Neuroscience Institute, Singapore General Hospital campus. Although his main practice is in the Mount Elizabeth and Gleneagles Hospitals, Dr Hong is also a Visiting Consultant to the National Neuroscience Institute, National Cancer Centre, National University Hospital, Singapore Gamma Knife Centre, and Singapore General Hospital. Dr Hong looks after, and operates on, problems affecting the brain, spine and nerves. He performs stereotactic craniotomies, radiosurgery, endoscopic pituitary surgery, thoracoscopic sympathectomies, as well as microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm. He has subspecialty interests in brain tumour surgery, especially endoscopic pituitary surgery and spine surgery.
